Led by avid biker Sarah Tey of Fraser, the first-ever Women’s Jump Jam kicks off on Friday, Aug. 15 at Trestle Bike Park in Winter Park. From 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., the 36th Chamber and Upper Rainmaker trails will be open only to women bikers participating in the event.

According to Tey, the goal is to create a supportive space for women to be able to ride jumps and progress their riding at the bike park without feeling intimidated.

“Almost all of us feel like it’s rare to be able to ride with women, because it’s 90% dudes,” Tey said. “It’s a way for women to be able to learn form each other and grow together in their riding skill with no pressure; just women, just camaraderie, no competition this time.”

While the event is open to all experience levels, Tey said she invited a few female coaches and seasoned riders who can provide guidance to those who may need it. The event is not a clinic, but a social event to help women connect and find biking buddies, she said.

After the jump jam, there will be party train at 6 p.m., where women are invited to ride other trails together, as well as a free bike gear raffle at 7pm. The event is also open to those who wish to cheer the riders on.

This will be the first time Trestle Park hosts a women-only biking event, but Tey said she hopes it won’t be the last. If it goes well, the tradition could carry on. Lift tickets and mountain bikes are required to participate in the event.
