Update: Fiber cut causes Verizon network outage that impacts customers across county; service restored
Grand County 911 services remain operational, do not use emergency dispatch to test phone service
Update, Thursday at 8:40 a.m.: Service was restored early Thursday morning.
Update, 2:55 p.m.: The Grand County Communications Center remains open and operational despite the outage. Grand County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to not call 911 to test your phone’s service, and to only call if there is a life-threatening emergency. Despite the outage, Verizon customers can still make a 911 call due to technologies in place, according to Erin Opsahl, the communications director for Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
Update, 11:50 a.m.: A representative with Verizon said in an email that a third-party vendor “experienced a fiber cut,” which is causing the outage. Verizon engineers are working with the vendor to resolve the issue.
Verizon’s network is experiencing an outage that is impacting people across Grand County. According to the Verizon app, data voice and text services are limited.
The issue started Wednesday morning at approximately 9 a.m. Repairs are in progress and the estimated time to restore service is 12-24 hours, according to the app.
The reason for the outage is unknown at this time. Sky-Hi News will provide updates as information is received.
