The West Grand High School football team is riding high with six wins in a row. Since 44-24 loss to open the season in Sanford, the Mustangs are undefeated.
West Grand football celebrated their 2025 homecoming game with a well-played victory over Rangely 52-6. The night included lots of fireworks both on the playing field and in the air.
The Mustangs took the first drive right down the field ending with a Jack Trail 6-yard run. Blake Terryberry added a conversion run to put the team up for good at 8-0.
After a quick three and out, the Mustang offense put together another fine drive capped this time by a Terryberry to Trail 18-yard touchdown pass. Rangely then responded with a drive that resulted in a perfect 45 touchdown pass to make it 16-6 with 4:15 minutes left in the half.
The defense kept the Panthers in check with interceptions by Walker Howell and Rubin Hatcher, while Trail recovered a fumble on the 3-yard line. The offense added two more drives ending in two Landon Lockhart touchdown runs of 16 and 5 yards. This enabled the home team to head into the half leading 30-6.
Terryberry connected with Trail for a 16-yard touch pass in the 3rd quarter and in the 4th he hit Sanjay Geffers with a 37-yard touchdown. Lockhart finished off the scoring with a 57-yard tackle breaking touchdown run. This got the running clock going for the last eight minutes of the game.
Once again, the strong blocking from the offense line of Conner Stone, Tony Crane, Aiden Klotz and John Butler resulted in 340 rushing yards, 178 of that by Lockhart. The defense — besides the 3-0 turnover advantage — was led by Butler’s 12 tackles, Hatcher’s 10, and quarterback sacks by Trail and Hunter Graves.
The Mustangs then traveled to Soroco for a 56-0 win on Oct. 10. Their next game in Thursday, Oct. 16 at Vail Christian.
