Letter to the Editor: Celebrating the Jamisons

The cover article for the March 19 issue of Sky-Hi News, “A positive attitude is his life force: Middle Park Nordic coach wins coach of the year” by Meg Soyars was outstanding. Sorry for the delay in getting this to you — I don’t get the Sky Hi-News fresh off the press, but await shipment of issues from my sister, Sue Neumann who lives near Tabernash.

Jennifer and I moved over a decade ago from Grand to Arizona, but we knew Coach Dan “Jamo” Jamison and his family very well, much to our fortune. Meg describes Jamo as the person he is and always has been to my recollection of him.

Not much can be added about his incredible virtue and grace when he encounters anyone. He can see the potential in everyone. Like assistant coach Dave Cleveland points out, “Jamo goes all in to support the kids.” I must add he goes “all in” to support everyone he interacts with. I know this firsthand by serving with he and his wife Kathy on the Grand County Search and Rescue team over twenty-five years ago, and the article sounds like Jamo hasn’t changed one bit, which is great for Grand.

In life, we learn that much we obtain can be purchased to help fulfill our life’s goals and dreams, but what cannot be purchased are the treasures we are blessed with in our lives which truly fulfill our dreams. And the treasures I refer to are people like Dan and Kathy Jamison.

Anyone who knows them as a friend, teacher, coach, patroller, dental guru, search buddy, neighbor and more, truly treasures in their heart and soul a special place for them. Oh, to live by the Golden Rule, just follow Jamo’s example. You are lucky Grand County to have such treasures residing among you. May their children carry their torches!
