Letter to the editor: Lyme disease does exist in Colorado — I would know
Winter Park
It is very disturbing to read a public health article, “Tick Talk: What is the real danger of ticks in Colorado?” in the Aug. 1 issue of Sky-Hi News. I believe this report will contribute to more Coloradans going untreated for Lyme and related illnesses. Dr. Meegan Leve used the same words my doctor said to me, 13 years ago: “There is no Lyme in Colorado.”
Because of that falsehood, a blood test was not done. It would have revealed my Lyme disease and allowed me to get treatment, right away. I now have permanent physical and neurological damage because of a misdiagnosis. You can’t make a diagnosis by looking at a map. Yes, I acquired Lyme in Grand County Colorado! If you get a tick bite, save the tick, insist on a test. Lyme is life altering.
