The Byers Canyon Shooting Range’s opening has been delayed because of “much needed” updates and improvements, Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced April 29.

The work is expected to begin May 1 and continue through the middle of June. During this time, the range will be closed. This construction will add wider shooting bays with shooting benches to allow for additional capacity during busy fall months. Berms will also be extended to allow for additional safety measures.

“The Byers Canyon Shooting Range is very popular with sportspersons from all over the West Slope,” said Jeromy Huntington, a Colorado Parks and Wildlife area wildlife manager. “We know these much-needed improvements will improve the overall shooting experience and safety of the range.”

He added that the agency hopes it will help better serve the increase in visitors during big game hunting season. More information on the Byers Canyon Shooting Range is available online.
