Climber takes a fall on Petit Grepon in Rocky Mountain National Park
On Sunday Aug. 17, park rangers and the Colorado Army National Guard rescued a climber who took a roped fall on the south face of Petit Grepon in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Park rangers were notified of the fall Sunday morning. According to a news release from the park, the climber was a 26-year-old male who sustained lower leg injuries from the fall.
“With the help of his partner, the climber was able to rappel to the base of the route where a hasty team of park rangers provided medical care,” the release stated.
Rocky’s search and rescue litter team carried equipment to the base of Timberline Falls for a possible guiding-line operation, according to the release.
A Colorado Army National Guard helicopter from Buckley Space Force Base assisted rangers in extricating the man via a hoist operation at approximately 3 p.m. The Colorado Hoist Rescue Team also assisted with hoist operations.
The man was taken for further medical care from Upper Beaver Meadows, and no further information is available at this time, according to the release.
