Community organizations to compete in Thanksgiving food drive

Families and individuals in need rely on the Mountain Family Center food pantries – especially during holidays like Thanksgiving. To help keep the food pantry well stocked during this time, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Grand County EMS, Grand County government, Middle Park Health and Mountain Parks Electric are stepping in.
These organizations are participating in a friendly competition to see which one can gather the most donations in time for Thanksgiving. The public is encouraged to support this mission by dropping off non-perishable food items to one of their offices. The food drive lasts from Oct. 13 through Nov. 14.
“We are thankful for a community that cares about one another and every donation is greatly appreciated,” the sheriff’s office stated.
Suggested donation items for Thanksgiving meal bags include: canned yams/sweet potatoes, canned corn, canned green beans, canned cream of mushroom soup, canned cranberries (whole or sauce), canned pie filing, stuffing (bags or boxes), mashed potatoes (boxes or pouches), fried onions, gravy (packets or jars), marshmallows, and cake or brownie mix.
Winners of the food drive competition earn the coveted “Golden Turkey Trophy.” In 2024, Mountain Parks Electric won the trophy.
