Crash on U.S. Highway 40 involves serious injury

A two-vehicle accident occurred on U.S. Highway 40 between Red Dirt Hill and the town of Granby Monday morning. The vehicle collision caused one person to be seriously injured, according to Colorado State Patrol.
The state agency explained that the accident involved a Jeep Wrangler and a Ford pickup, at approximately 7:30 a.m. at milepost 216. The driver of the Ford sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the hospital. At this time State Patrol does not know how many people were involved in the accident.
The crash temporarily blocked westbound U.S. 40. By 8:34 a.m., the roadway was open in both directions.
A minor accident also occurred on the bottom of Red Dirt Hill Sunday night near milepost 218. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office stated it responded to the scene of the accident, where a vehicle had slid into a ditch. There were no injuries.
Grand County roads will be treacherous as another storm moves in Monday night. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm warning for the Winter Park area. The warning lasts from from 3 a.m. Tuesday to 11 p.m. Wednesday. The Weather Service cautions that road closures and very difficult travel conditions are expected.
Names of the victims for both accidents have not been released by officials at this time.
