On June 20, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Grand County Communications Center received a report of a small grass fire near Gore Pass.
Mountain Parks Electric staff reported the fire on County Road 138, which is off Colorado Highway 134, west of Kremmling. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office stated that it responded along with the Kremmling Fire Protection District, U.S. Forest Service and Hot Sulphur Springs/ Parshall Fire Protection District.
The fire was estimated at a quarter of an acre and was fully controlled at about 5 p.m.
“It’s believed that the fire started due to high winds in the area that caused a tree to sway and come into contact with a power line,” the sheriff’s office stated.
The sheriff’s office encourages the community to be vigilant and report any smoke or fire sighting to the Grand County Communications Center at 970-725-3311 or by calling/texting 911. After thunderstorms predicted for the first half of the week, dry and warm weather is expected to return Thursday, June. 26
