Friends of Grand County Library seeks new board members, volunteers Group will fill three board seats and add volunteers to continue work

The Friends of Grand County Library, a community organization that has supported local libraries for more than four decades, is seeking residents to join its leadership and volunteer ranks or risk taking action to dissolve the group.

In a call for new members, the Friends said it needs new, younger people to serve on its boardof directors and to volunteer in support of library programming. The group is seeking to fill three board seats and add volunteers to help ensure it can continue its work.

New Board members will represent three areas of Grand County: Grand Lake; Kremmling, Parshall and Hot Sulphur Springs; and Winter Park, Fraser and Tabernash. The board meets quarterly, with additional meetings as needed to plan fundraising activities, the group said. The Friends emphasized that being a full-time resident of Grand County is important for anyone serving on the board.

The group also is seeking volunteers of all ages to help with ongoing activities. Duties includesorting donated books, restocking books for sale at branch locations at the Fraser and GrandLake Recreation Centers, and assisting at special book-sale events, including Granby’s 4th ofJuly and the Grand Lake Buffalo Days.

Membership in the Friends of Grand County Library is open to anyone interested in supporting the library system through membership and volunteer work, the group said. The organization noted that until Aug. 31 there is no cost to join, offering a $25 savings.

The Friends said it has been an advocate for the county’s libraries since 1984 and has provided more than $1 million in support. The group funds the cost of programs and supplies for the Summer Library Program, which it says helps children retain critical reading and learning skills during the summer break.

The Friends urged community members to help preserve the organization, saying it may take action to dissolve if it cannot recruit new board members and volunteers. For more information or to express interest in serving, the group asked residents to contact Judy Smith at judy@fogcl.org as soon as possible.
