On March 25, the Granby Board of Trustees unanimously approved a conditional-use permit for Grand County Pet Pals.

The issue was continued from the last board meeting due to trustees requesting more information regarding a waterline underneath the planned animal shelter that could potentially cause problems down the line.

Town staff brought back some more information regarding the waterline and some potential options available to the board. Granby Public Works Director Doug Bellatty accepted questions from trustees during the meeting.

Bellatty explained some scenarios if the water line were to break and how the public works team could approach fixing the pipe. He also shared that he is not particularly concerned about this specific section of pipe.

“Bottom line is, if I was concerned, I would tell you right now,” Bellatty said. … “I’m telling you I’m not, OK? You don’t have to take my word for it. I can’t predict the future, but I have other sections of pipe I’m probably more concerned about than that one.”

Additionally, some other slight alternations were made to the shelter design, including the removal of overhang structures that went over a nearby easement.

The conditional-use permit will allow Grand County Pet Pals to build an animal shelter in an industrial district zoned area.

Grand County Pet Pals will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the animal shelter at noon May 5 at 505 Park Lane in Granby.

Community members can support the new animal shelter by donating at GCPetPals.org/partner or by mailing a check to P.O. Box 1972, Granby, CO 80446. To learn more about the nonprofit, visit GCPetPals.org.

He suggested bringing in Mary Ann Degginger to assist with the project. Degginger was previously a programming director at YMCA and has a wide breadth of recreational experience. She is expected to work around 160 hours over the course of the project for a rate of $65 per hour — to be paid out from the entire budgeted amount of the project. The board approved hiring Degginger to assist with the project in a 5-1 vote with Stern voting “no.”
