Grand Fire opts not to renew chief’s contract

Ron Thompson

The board of directors for Grand Fire Protection District No. 1 decided in mid-December not to renew the contract of its chief, Ron Thompson.

“We wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” said Alina Bell, board president.

The board publicly gave no reason for their decision.

Thompson told Sky-Hi News on Thursday that he had no comment regarding the board’s decision.

Thompson, a third-generation fire chief from Missouri, joined the Granby department in 2014. He formerly served as fire chief in Pagosa Springs, deputy chief in Independence, Missouri, fire/EMS bureau commander in Gladstone, Missouri, and as deputy chief of the inspection unit for the Missouri Division of Fire Safety.

Grand Fire Assistant Chief Brad White has been named interim fire chief.
