Human remains found in Rocky Mountain National Park identified by Larimer County coroner
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office has identified the human remains found in Rocky Mountain National Park near the Alpine Ridge Trail on June 18 as Steven Noto, 40, of western New York.
The July 28 news release from the coroner’s office reads that he was positively and scientifically identified through dental record comparison, and that a forensic examination of the remains was done on June 20 at the Larimer County Forensic Sciences Center.
By the time the remains were discovered, they were mostly skeletonized. This meant that a cause and manner of death was unable to be determined, according to the release.
The scene and forensic investigation of the remains showed that the death is thought to have taken place in late November 2024. Foul play has been ruled out.
The National Park Service is the lead investigative agency for this case.
