I-70 expected to see increased mountain traffic over Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend
Historically one of the busiest ski weekends of the winter, poor snow conditions this year may reduce skier traffic over the holiday weekend

Colorado drivers can expect increased traffic on the Interstate 70 mountain corridor over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend.
The holiday weekend is often one of the busiest ski weekends of the winter and has historically seen higher traffic volumes, according to GoI70, an initiative by the I-70 Coalition, which aims to provide drivers with tips for navigating the mountain corridor.
No snow is expected over the weekend, which should help keep travel times on track, and poor snow conditions may limit the amount of traffic, according to the GoI70 travel forecast. To avoid potential delays, GoI70 suggests avoiding peak travel times.
Over the past three years, westbound traffic experienced delays of about 60 minutes on the Saturday of this weekend, with traffic building between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Eastbound traffic historically experienced about 30 minute delays between about 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., according to the travel forecast.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, westbound traffic has experienced delays of about 30 to 60 minutes between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. during this holiday, while eastbound traffic has experienced delays between 15 and 30 minutes from about 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the forecast states.
