On Friday, Oct. 10, the Granby Police Department, Grand County Sheriff’s Office and Grand County EMS responded to an area at E. Agate Ave. in downtown Granby after receiving a report of a disturbance with weapons involved.

According to police documents, Oliver Sevilla, 31, was detained on the following charges: assault in the third degree, felony menacing, harassment, criminal mischief and domestic violence.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the subject was intoxicated and a verbal argument had escalated into a physical altercation,” the Granby Police Department news release stated. “During the incident, the suspect produced a knife and held a victim at knifepoint.”

According to a police statement, the altercation began when the suspect’s wife locked herself in a bedroom to get away from his violent, drunken behavior. Sevilla allegedly tried to get into the room by stabbing the door with a knife. He then kicked down the door, broke his wife’s phone and pushed her to the ground, before threatening another woman with the knife.

The suspect then fled the scene, but officers located him shortly after between Agate Avenue and Railroad Avenue. Sevilla was taken into custody without further incident. This incident remains under investigation.
