A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in front of one of the nearly completed townhomes in Granby’s new workforce housing development, Nuche Village, on Friday, July 18. During the event, key players involved in the project’s success spoke and invited the public to tour the building for themselves.

Inside, the two-floor, two-bedroom space was clean and spartan with tall ceilings and long views from the front and back windows.

Located east of U.S. Highway 40 and between Silverside and the Flying Heels Rodeo, Nuche Village is an affordable housing development intended for local workers. Nuche Village is offering apartments for rent and homeownership options for townhomes, duplexes and single family homes. The deadline to apply is Aug. 4.

Prior to the actual ribbon cutting, town manager Ted Cherry delivered many thanks for everyone’s support on the project and gave assistant town manager Nichole Schafer a special shout out for her dedicated work on the project.

Town of Granby representatives were joined by stakeholders and funding partners including State Senator Dylan Roberts, the Middle Income Housing Authority, the Fraser River Valley Housing Partnership, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, and Big Valley Construction, the builder of Nuche Village.

Roberts spoke about how the district he represents is large, but is united in the struggle to have affordable and attainable housing.

“I’m here to: One – to congratulate the town of Granby for your incredible work and leadership on getting this started and getting this project done, and also to celebrate the state’s partnership in this effort,” Roberts said. “We passed a bill that I was proud to be the sponsor of in 2022 that created the Transformational Affordable Housing Grant program. This project received $3.6 million from that grant program”

He went on to talk about how “transformational” this housing project will be for local families and how it will allow local workers who will be able to stay in the community long-term.

Many others spoke on the fact that this housing project was only possible through a variety of partnerships and steadfast commitment.

Granby mayor Josh Hardy previously invited attendees to look at the home for themselves. The town contracted with Vederra Modular who is providing modular builds for the development.

“This initiative isn’t focused on second homes or (short-term rentals). It’s focused on the locals. It’s about our families, our teachers, our first responders, our utility workers, our front line employees, and everybody in between. It’s about building a stronger community,” Hardy said.

Hardy said that this housing project has been five years in the making.

After all the speeches, a green ribbon was cut in front of a nearly-completed townhome that were open for individuals to tour and explore.

Lindsey Morrow of Keller Williams is the exclusive real estate agent for Nuche Village. She had a small booth and pop-up tent at the celebration with information for event attendees who wanted to learn more about homeownership opportunities.

Because this is a deed-restricted community, anyone interested in buying or renting in Nuche Village must qualify under a set of specific criteria. For more details information about the eligibility criteria, visit TownOfGranby.com/nuche.
