The light stayed late in the snow-covered expanse of Kawuneeche Valley on March 8, the first day of daylight savings time. The sun set in the valley around 6:45 p.m. By 7:30, p.m. is was fully dusk, yet the palette of pastel sky lingered past 8 p.m. Rocky Mountain National Park was quiet, with only a few souls and the sound of a lone hawk echoing through the dusk.
