Skijor racer Noah Gregory suffered injuries from a fall on Saturday, Feb. 28, according to Grand Lake Skijoring event organizers.
Gregory, a racer from outside of Grand County, is in stable condition in a Denver hospital, Grand Lake Town Manager Steve Kudron said.
The crash occurred after his horse went over one of the features “in a spot that the horse should not have been,” said event organizer Delphine Eytel, noting that both Gregory and the horse fell as a result of going off course into deep snow.
The horse remained uninjured. Gregory is in high spirits and plans to return to the skijor race series in Grand Lake next year once he is recovered, Eytel said.
A Go Fund Me has been created to help cover expenses from Gregory’s injury.
“Noah was transported by ambulance and subsequently LifeFlighted to Denver, where he underwent surgery on (March 2) for a shattered pelvis,” the page states. “While Noah was lucky in that his organs and spinal cord were not injured, he has a long road ahead of him, with doctors estimating his recovery to be up to 9 months of rehab.”
Gregory runs Telluride Wranglers with his wife Christina. He is a firefighter in Cortez and they have two young children.
In another incident that day, a skier ran into a judge who suffered minor injuries and is home safe now, according to Eytel.
