Grand County Library District extended a heartfelt thank you to everyone who read during this year’s Book Madness competition at Fraser Valley Elementary School.

“The competition between books and readers this year was fierce, and a winner rose to the top,” Director of Public Services Chris Newell said in a June 5 email.

By a vote of 122-61, the winner was “This Book Is Dangerous!” by Ben Clanton.

The book stars the anxious jellyfish Jelly from the popular “Narwhal and Jelly” series. When Jelly discovers that the book itself is supposedly dangerous, he tries desperately to escape while warning readers not to turn pages, make noise or touch anything. Despite his efforts, he encounters a series of humorous underwater dangers, including sea serpents, a cannon, a pirate crab and a shark, with the reader becoming part of the adventure.

The winner was announced last week at an all-school assembly, where students, teachers, parents and administrators gathered to cheer for the winning book for the final round of a March Madness-style bracket showdown of books read by community members.

“It was really fun, and we have all of you to thank,” Newell said. “Your time and commitment to the students and to this engaging community reading program is appreciated.”
