The Grand Lake Creative District has received their third Folk and Traditional Arts Project grant from the state. These funds meant to enhance community well-being, cultural identity, economic vitality and sense of place across Colorado.

The most recently awarded $3000 grant will go towards purchasing additional tools for the organization’s leather-working program. An anonymous donor gifted the Rocky Mountain Folk School leatherworking tools in June.

The Colorado Creative Industries Division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade announced that a total of 25 artists and arts organizations across Colorado were awarded the latest round of Folk and Traditional Arts Project Grants.

A total of $75,000 was awarded between 25 artists and arts organizations. Each recipient received $3,000, including the Grand Lake Creative District.

Gillian Butler, the program and marketing coordinator for Grand Lake Creative District, said that the most recently awarded grant will go towards purchasing leather tools for their leather tooling workshops and a leather wallet making workshop.

Butler said that this grant will make leather classes more affordable to potential students.

As part of the grant’s preservation efforts, all funded projects will be archived in the state archives and made accessible to the public through History Colorado.
