A structure fire at the Vasquez Creek Condos closed Vasquez Road in Winter Park at around 4 p.m. Saturday, but has been put out.

The fire damaged a structure under construction at 500 Vasquez Road, according to the Fraser Winter Park Police Department. Vasquez Road is now open.

East Grand Fire, Grand Fire Protection District #1, Grand County EMS and the Fraser Winter Park Police Department responded to the call of a structure fire at 3:49 p.m. on Nov. 17. Crews were able to get the fire out by 4:30 p.m., said Chief of East Grand Fire Todd Holzwarth.

Smoke was coming from the back of the building and flames were visible inside the structure when fire crews arrived on scene, according to Holzwarth.

Holzwarth said the fire likely started from a fire inside the structure’s fireplace and grew. While the investigation is ongoing, Holzwarth said the cause may have been an improperly kept flu since the Vasquez Creek Condos are undergoing reconstruction after a failure in the foundation years ago left it practically abandoned.

There was damage to the dry wall, rafters and partially-constructed wall, but Holzwarth said the damage was confined.

No injuries were reported and no other structures were involved.
