Starting Sunday, April 13, automated gate transponders will be available for purchase at Rocky Mountain National Park’s Beaver Meadows Visitor Center from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. Sundays, according to a news release from the park.
Visitors who purchase the transponder device will attach it to a vehicle’s windshield and be able to enter the park using the transponder lane at the Beaver Meadows and Fall River entrances on the east side of the park. A new transponder lane will be available at the Grand Lake entrance after the previous lane was destroyed in the 2020 East Troublesome Fire.
The transponder lanes help to reduce queuing and congestion at entrance stations during busy weekends as well as at times of day when timed entry is not in effect.
The devices will be available to annual and lifetime passholders, including Rocky Mountain National Park, America the Beautiful, senior, military, veterans, access and fourth-grade passes.
The fee for a transponder is $15. One transponder can be purchased per valid annual or lifetime pass, and the transponder is valid for up to one year. The transponder renewal fee is $5. For those renewing transponders purchased from February to June 2024, the $5 renewal rate will be waived. Renewals must be done in person.
The park ceased transponder sales in June 2024 due to technical difficulties, which have since been resolved, the release states.
