Winter Park Competition Center athletes have seen lots of successes this season, from their most advanced skiers, to their youngest members on Team Discovery. On this team, students with aspirations of becoming great skiers learn the basics of competitive alpine racing.

On Jan. 21, Team Discovery participated in the HEAD Rebels YSL Skills Quest in Vail.

At the Skills Quest, the young athletes were judged on four fundamental skiing skills: pole jumpers, outside ski turns, straight run to side slip with edge set, and freeski with pole usage. Over 215 athletes participated from clubs including Vail Ski & Snowboard Club, Team Summit, Team Breckenridge, Eldora, Loveland and Cloud City.

The competition center’s U10 and U12 age-class alpine athletes also competed in Steamboat on Jan. 20, with the girls teams in particular enjoying several milestones.

“We’re so proud that our young athletes represented the importance we place on developing critical components that make up a high-performing alpine athlete,” Jenny McGlincy stated, who is the communications and content specialist for the competition center.
