The osprey parents in Grand Lake are getting ready to welcome three chicks into the world. Viewers from around the country have been watching a livestream set up near the osprey’s nest.
Kent Roorda, the custodian of the livestream, announced that eggs are typically hatched between June 15 and 25.
He wrote to his followers in a weekly update that the eggs will hatch in the same order and interval that they were laid. This spring, mom laid three eggs, each two days apart. Therefore, when the eggs hatch, they should also hatch about every other day.
“If you haven’t seen it before, please note how interested and proud Dad is in his newborn chicks,” Roorda wrote. “He is very proud of them and he takes good care of them.”
The osprey parents have been returning to the same nest for years. Their eggs have usually hatched in the early morning. But in 2024, they each hatched in the evening around 7 p.m.
