The Outdoor Equity Grant Program is making the outdoors more accessible for youths by providing financial resources to organizations that address inequality in the outdoors.

From Aug. 21 to Sept. 29, organizations that fit the program description can apply for financial support. There are $2 million available for youth outdoor programs to apply for. Groups can apply for as little as they need or up to $100,000.

The Outdoor Equity Grant Program comes from House Bill 21-1318 that aims at funding opportunities for youth and their families from communities that have historically excluded from the outdoors.

The grant gets its money through income from the Colorado Lottery. Once the lottery reaches the fiscal cap for operations the spillover money goes into programs like the Colorado Outdoor Equity Grant.

One of the grant awardees from 2022 was Gypsum Elementary School, who were granted $5,000 for their physical education class. Many of the students don’t get opportunities to participate in outdoor activities past the playground and soccer field at school.

Organizations that fit the description for the grant are encouraged to apply before the deadline of Sept. 29.
