Sky-Hi News has named Sean McAlindin as its new editor. He brings with him two decades of experience as a reporter, editor and educator.

Originally from New Jersey, he grew up in the small town of Canton, Connecticut. He went on to major in English at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and his first journalism job was as a reporter for the Rio Grande Sun in Española, New Mexico. For two decades, he pursued a career as an English teacher and outdoor educator, working in places such as Brooklyn, Oakland, Lander, Bend and Truckee.

Once upon a time, he drove the town bus in Crested Butte and lived in a pickup truck with his dog, Blue.

As a former writer and editor for Tahoe Weekly, Moonshine Ink, Mountain Bike Action and The Mountains, McAlindin has extensive experience covering music, arts, government and public lands. In 2021, he won the Will Berry Hard News Reporting Award for his investigative work into national forest snowmobiling policy.

He’s devoted to ski town culture and has enjoyed writing about the Lake Tahoe music, arts and outdoor sports scenes for nearly a decade. In his far-reaching interviews, McAlindin has spoken with cultural icons from Walton Goggins and Ani DiFranco to Graham Nash and Herbie Hancock.

In his role at Sky-Hi, he will support and manage the newsroom’s staff and news products, including its newspaper, website and magazines.

As he gets to know Grand County, McAlindin said he will be focused on covering the issues that matter to readers with depth and consistency, adding that he encourages his reporters to develop their research and storytelling to deliver compelling, objective, fact-based content that enriches the knowledge and understanding of the community.

“I’m excited to be in Grand County, getting to know the local people and culture,” McAlindin said. “I’m looking forward to meeting the community and continuing the important work we do at Sky-Hi News.”

An avid outdoorsman, McAlindin enjoys backcountry skiing and rock climbing. He plays many instruments and loves to make music with friends.

McAlindin will be visiting Grand County through April 18, and he welcomes community members to stop in and visit during office hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this week (excluding a lunch break from noon-1:30 p.m.). He plans to relocate to Grand County in late June.

You can reach McAlindin at 970-557-6031 or smcalindin@skyhinews.com.
