Several lifts in Winter Park Resort under wind hold

Heavy winds impact Winter Park Resort on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 2, 2025. A high wind warning is in effect for the area.

Winter Park Resort announced it has held a number of lifts due to high winds on Sunday, Feb. 2. According to the resort’s website as of noon Sunday, the following lifts are held on the Winter Park side: the Gondola, Explorer Express and Olympia Express. On the Mary Jane side, held lifts include Sunnyside Express and Super Gauge Express. Vasquez Ridge, Eagle Wind and Parsen Bowl are also on wind hold.

According to the National Weather Service of Denver/Boulder, Winter Park is under a high wind warning from 11 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. There is a west wind 23 to 30 mph throughout the afternoon, but gusts could get as high as 45 mph.

According to the hazardous weather outlook, peak gusts of 65-85 mph can be expected above treeline and wind-prone foothills locations throughout the Rocky Mountain region.
