The Youth Alliance for Writers and Poets (YAWP) is offering a writing contest for students. Teens worldwide, including those in Grand County, can submit work of any genre, of up to 3,000 words. There is no submission fee. Submissions are due by Jan. 15, 2027.

After submitting, each student is required to evaluate two anonymous pieces submitted by other students using a rubric-based scoring system. Judging is based on creativity, technical skill, message, and use of personal voice. Each work receives feedback, and winning pieces are published digitally and in print. Cash prizes are awarded to winners.

A high school student founded YAWP to create a student-led and student-judged contest. The alliance provides a space for students to exchange writing, gain critical skills, and receive peer feedback from students with different backgrounds and perspectives.
