Letter to the editor: Respect handicapped parking

Kent Roorda
Grand Lake

I am unfortunately disabled and must temporarily make use of handicapped parking. While parking at City Market and other places, it seems to me that a significant portion of the people who are using handicapped parking placards to park their cars in handicapped parking places are not handicapped. These actions are illegal and the law is clearly written on the placard that was issued to a handicapped person.

My handicapped parking placard clearly states: “Use of this placard by anyone other than the person it was issued to, is a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $5000.00 and Community Service. CRS 42-1-1208 … When the placard is displayed and used, the registered person that the placard is registered to must enter and exit the vehicle when parked in a reserved parking space or a person with a disability.”

I hope that you will bring this to the attention of our community of which many have clearly abused this law.
