Winter has settled in, and the nights are frigid!

Sure, many of us might be out skiing, tubing, snowshoeing, ice skating or ice climbing by now, but what are we to do on those cold, winter nights after the sun sets? What happens after your brain has had enough stimulation from binging on your favorite streaming service or watching sporting events on TV?

Grand County Library District has a grand idea: Cozy up and stretch your imagination with a good fiction or nonfiction book, listen to an audiobook in a variety of formats, or read an e-book on your favorite device. We are challenging people of all ages — infants through adults — to join our Winter Reading Adventure: 3 books, 3 formats, 3 months.

Joining a reading challenge can be a fantastic way to make the most of the colder months. Here are a few reasons to consider:

  • Stay engaged: It keeps your mind active, providing a productive way to spend your time indoors. Enjoy reading aloud with family, friends, neighbors or the family pet!
  • Discover new books: You’ll have the opportunity to explore new genres and authors you might not have considered before. If you have kids at home, consider introducing them to the classics.
  • Personal growth: Escape the cold by diving into a wonderful book! Reading can enhance your knowledge, improve your vocabulary and even boost your empathy by exposing you to different perspectives.
  • Fun and rewards: Complete the challenge, earn a goodie bag and enter your name into a prize drawing.

Complete the challenge of three books in three formats in three months by filling out a Winter Reading Adventure bookmark, available at all five library locations. This year’s challenge runs from Dec. 1 to Feb. 28 and is available at all five library locations.

Below are a few of our newer adult titles, but we have books and resources for all ages and interests. Begin your reading adventure today!
