June is here, which means it’s time for Pride.
The Stonewall Riots happened 57 years ago on June 28, kicking off the modern LGBTQIA+ rights we have today. Pride Month is about acceptance, community and celebrating who we are. Grand County Library District is here to help with that.
Books show, support and celebrate us, our ideas, our imagination and our stories. Let’s celebrate the library-way by reading some LGBTQIA+ books this June. Happy Pride everyone!
Fiction
“Last Night at the Telegraph Club” by Malinda Lo
America in 1954 is not a safe place for two girls to fall in love, especially not in Chinatown. Red Scare paranoia threatens everyone, including Chinese Americans like Lily. With deportation looming over her father, despite his hard-won citizenship, Lily and Kath risk everything to let their love see the light of day.
“Motor City Love Song” by Lisa Peers
No one knows why the queen of indie rock vanished from the Detroit scene twenty years ago. Now, her ex-girlfriend is determined to track her down and what she uncovers will change everything.
Romance
“Love in Focus” by Lyla Lee
When her seven-year long relationship falls apart, relationship advice columnist Gemma Cho is convinced that real love doesn’t exist. As a bisexual woman who’s had zero luck with both men and women, she’s ready to give up on love when she gets paired up with Celeste Min, a world-renowned photographer, on a highly visual, potentially career-saving piece on modern love.
“Star Shipped” by Cat Sebastian
Simon and Charlie, actors on a long-running sci-fi show, can’t stand one another. Now that Simon’s contract is finally done, he can get away from Charlie. His only problem is that people might assume he’s been pushed off the show due to being impossible to work with. Simon would rather never have to see Charlie again, but reluctantly agrees to stage a very public friendship during the short time before he moves.
Fantasy
“Dearly Departed” by Chip Pons
Hayden Harlow, once the mighty Hades, has spent centuries quietly resenting his fall from immortality. Stripped of his godhood by the Immortal Retirement Act, he now runs Harlow and Sons Funeral Home. Enter Levi Wilder: a florist with an artist’s heart, an infectious smile, and a gift for finding beauty in life’s messiest moments.
“The Spear Cuts Through Water” by Simon Jimenez
Two warriors shepherd an ancient god across a broken land to end the tyrannical reign of a royal family in this epic fantasy. A sweeping adventure story and an intimate exploration of identity, legacy and belonging.
Horror
“Thrall” by Rebecca Mahoney
A young woman looking for a transformative college experience is bitten by a vampire and must team up with his other living victims to hunt him down.
“Muñeca” by Cynthia Gómez
A vivid, surreal Gothic about a queer, Latine, working class witch who sets out to rescue a bespelled heiress and loses control of her powers and her heart in the process.
